Overview
The study of architecture is the integrated study of the creation of spaces for the various activities in which human beings engage. At Nagoya University, architecture can be studied in the architecture program that is offered by the School of Engineering’s Civil Engineering and Architecture Departments and the architecture course that is offered by the Graduate School of Environmental Studies’ Department of Environmental Engineering and Architecture. The areas studied in these two courses are broadening from pure architecture to encompass the urban environment and environments in general, and expanding from the physical environment to include the information environment as well. The academic, technical, and artistic skills that are needed by architects and those who plan, design, build, and preserve our cities are taught in an integrated way based on the three areas of planning and design, environment and equipment, and construction, materials, and production techniques. In its architecture courses, the University aims to train independent-minded, creative personnel who are able to make full use of high-level specialist knowledge within a broad range of perspectives.
